Cooker & hob faults and fixes

Repair or replace?

Switches, rings, burners, igniters and thermocouples are cheap repairs. Gas work must only be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Induction generator faults on older hobs can approach replacement cost.

Know your rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, appliances must be of satisfactory quality and last a reasonable time. If a fault appears within 6 months of purchase the retailer must prove it wasn’t there at delivery, and you can usually claim for up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland) if a product fails far sooner than it should. Check this before paying for a repair on a young machine.
